Kasteelskop is a rocky hill above Fairy Glen and below the Three Sisters that resembles a castle turret. It also features a castellated ridge from a certain angle. Our pleasant hike took in the kop and the nek (saddle) that separates it from the higher Three Sisters peaks. The route is a relatively short 6km and met my neighbour’s specification for a sub 6-hour hike, which is a new criterion for me. However, it involves two climbs within the first kilometre or two, the first of which is quite sharp, so that you will experience about 430 m of cumulative elevation. So, that meets the cardiovascular exercise criterion. And of course, the aesthetic criterion is superbly met: great views and pristine fynbos.

As the hike falls within the Kleinmond Coastal and Mountain and Nature Reserve, no permits are required. There is ample parking at the Fairy Glen (Feetjiesbos) picnic site near the Palmiet River bridge.
