Rod’s Trail is an easy 9 km circular, scenic walk that follows the base of the Kogelberg mountains above Betty’s Bay, then meanders down to the coast to return along the beach than forms part of the Betty’s Bay Marine Protected Area. Gain in elevation is negligible. Lucky walkers can be rewarded with diverse fynbos, a relaxed encounter with either or both baboon troops, coastal birds like the Black oystercatcher pairs, dolphins, whales, and if you are really lucky, the resident sea otters. Break the walk at one of the eateries or coffee shops at or near the Harold Porter Botanical Garden, or even include a walk through the garden as part of the experience. The trail is easily accessible with no fees, but entrance to the botanical garden is payable.
